4 Steps to create balanced Snack Bins

4 Steps to create balanced Snack Bins

Back to School whether in person or virtual means one thing for a family, FOOD! You know when your kiddos come home from school, the first thing they ask for is a SNACK! Let’s take the stress away from snack time and have food readily available. If you have a toddler home, this can be implemented as well. Or heck, even adults can do this 🙂 Follow my 4 simple steps for creating balanced snack bins for the entire family!

How to create Balanced Snack Bins:

  1. Choose 2-4 items. You can put enough items for one day at a time or for a few days, depending on the age of your kiddo. Less for a younger kiddo, more for school aged. Rotate items weekly. To save time, create a master list using this format and for a sample click here

  2. Establish boundaries from the beginning. You can eat from here anytime or you can only choose an item after asking an adult first, when it’s snack time- you can choose an item.

  3. Pair pre-chopped fruits and veggies with a protein/fat source- This encourages eating fresh produce with protein/fat source to create a balanced, satisfying snack. Eating fruit or veggies alone can be boring and not tide you over until the next meal.

  4. Think:

    • Something Fresh (produce)

    • Something Substantial (protein/fat source)

    • Something Fun (can be fresh or packaged food)
